I woke up in a strange room. I have no freaking idea where I am, but I got this neat little device that lets me record stuff! Nobody mugged me; tools and other trinkets of varying importance are still on person, and I haven't sustained any injuries... but boy, does it suck not knowing where I am! Did someone decide to just politely kidnap me, give me money, then equip me with a cool device? Either they're reaaaaaally dumb or they've got some creepy stalkerish plan up their stupid little sleeves!

Teeheehee... all things considered, whoever's got the balls to kidnap me made this all pretty interesting-

Ooooh, mystifying. [Snickers then rolls her eyes.] So, Mysterious Guy, have you tried running away?

The device is known as a Forge and it's rather simple once you get the hang of it. My suggestion is to just spend time learning all of it's functions. But quickly- it allows you to send messages to the public network or to a person's personal mail using audio or video recording, or text. It also allows filtering and privating messages to specified people and groups of people. You can also scan documents and takes notes using it.

If anything should happen to it, a new one can be gotten from the right person here, though they're pretty sturdy. I don't suggest using it too roughly though, just in case.

As for this place, it's called Anatole, and it's pretty big, so I suggest- like the Forge- you work your way around it and find out what you need. A few examples of places you can visit if you ever should need to is the library, a pub, a cafe, a found goods store, and a bathhouse. There's also a clinic and it might be a good idea to get familiar with it's location.

We're kidnapped, sure, and haven't really been given a reason as to why, but we don't really have the time to just sit around and panic, so do your best and get familiar with everything now.

So you might say we all try to pay back by helping other newcomers. Not everyone is nice, no, and there are always people who shouldn't be trusted, but most of us just try to get along.

Getting along is a nice place to start. Though, again, I should point out that not everyone here is nice, so it's good if you stay a bit on your guard.

[He laughs at her remark on the technology.] Well, while I have visited worlds which were considerably more technologically advanced than this one, my own home world was actually a peasant society. We didn't have any modes of communication more advanced than messengers and homing pigeons, unless you count magic.
