Thinking while coming awake is like slowly turning on a faucet. It's just a trickle at first, drips of consciousness. It starts with where am I and who is this.
Very uncomplicated questions with very uncomplicated one-word answers. And for a while, your mind goes blessedly blank; you're on that border between sleeping and waking, warm and comfortable and disinclined to open your eyes just yet. There's no hurry.
Then slowly, the tap opens and the flow of thought increases. They become more complex, not framed into words, but in abstract concepts of needing to get up and have to work and a momentary consideration of spending all day at home in bed.
(That last is tempting. Very tempting. It would give you an obscene sense of satisfaction to shirk your responsibilities, in the way that giving Potter a zero in Potions satisfied you. In the way that any antisocial behavior satisfies you because it's an outlet. You're occasionally impotent against the world and petty revenge is your sole consolation. If you could somehow convince her to skive off, too, well, that would just be a bonus.)
Conscience comes with consciousness, however, and there's a long moment of argument between that need for petty revenge and the rational part of you that knows the difference between right and wrong. You have too many things to do to allow for pettiness. Have to get up and open the shop. There's no avoiding the bulk of them, apparently, and Theo is pleased that Severus's isn't as unpleasant or gruesome as some that he's seen.
