(She can't help feeling a little guilty. She's never been the most appreciative of her parents. Even less so in the past couple years. And she's certainly made no attempt to reach out to her father since she'd been so unceremoniously thrown out of the house)

That's always the worst. No parent should have to outlive their child. That doesn't necessarily make it easier when you're the one hurting though.
